Burlington Cohousing is legally structured like a condomonium. Each household owns the floors, walls, and ceiling of their unit and everything inside it. They also own collectively, with all the other households, the common elements including the common house, the roofs, outside walls, and structural components of the buildings, as well as the grounds. The common elements are managed by the residents, through the homeowners association. The legal documents for the community include the Declaration of Condominium and the By-Laws.

We have built homes that are energy efficient, long lasting, neighborhood-friendly, and suitable for our northern climate. We have both our private homes - in which we can spend time alone or with immediate family - and attractive shared spaces, where we gather to enjoy meals, conversation, play, and work with our friends and neighbors. We were not looking for glitz and elaborate amenities, but for inviting, imaginatively designed, well-built, and flexible spaces.

Our homes exceed the ENERGY STAR U.S. government regulations.

Our homes exceed the quality of common construction.

Our Homes

Burlington Cohousing consists of 32 private homes consisting of a mix of one, two and three-bedroom apartments, two and three-bedroom townhouses, and two single-family homes. All units except one single-family house were completed in November 2007. Units are moderately priced, with substantial subsidies for nine of the units to make them affordable to buyers who meet the income requirements. There is a community building for optional group meals, relaxing with friends, and many other uses. A large outdoor area is used for play, socializing, and gardening. These buildings rest on 3.5 acres of land and are located right next to Centennial Woods Natural Area.
