We're located off of East Avenue in Burlington, Vermont. Although we're only a short distance from downtown Burlington (a little over a mile on foot), we're right next to Centennial Woods, a 68-acre nature preserve. This natural area is a great asset; a place where area residents walk, snowshoe, and observe wildlife and wildflowers. We're so close to the heart of the city, that walking and biking are effective forms of transportation, but we're also close to city bus routes, including a free shuttle to downtown and the waterfront. Burlington is a regular recipient of awards for being one of the most liveable cities in the U.S., including Best Place to Raise a Family (2009), Healthiest City in the US (2008), Greenest City in the USA (2008), and second place as the Greenest Small City in America (2008). The state of Vermont in general is recognized as one of the healthiest places in the country to live. Vermont was recently designated as the state with the lowest child mortality rate and lowest risk of childhood developmental delays. Vermont's child health system was rated by the Commonwealth Fund as the second best in the country.
As the biggest city in one of the most rural states in the country, Burlington is the center of Vermont's cultural life. Among many other events, Burlington hosts the week long Discover Jazz Festival every Spring, as well as the Winter and Summer Mozart Festivals. The Flynn Center is the regular venue for a wide range of music, dance, and dramatic performances. Located on the shore of Lake Champlain, Burlington offers a wide variety of recreational activities including swimming, sailing, sea kayaking, canoeing, waterskiing, scuba diving, fishing, and power boating. Situated between the Green Mountains of Vermont and the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York, there are many opportunities for hiking, backpacking, camping, whitewater paddling, and alpine and cross country skiing within an hour's drive of the city.
